How to show-off your new Macbook to your Friends

Everyone from our small age we have seen the windows xp, vista and windows 7. By far we have known that the giant is the Microsoft and Apple is always below when comparing to OS and easy usability. But after the reach of iDevices the iPod, iPhone and iPad, Apple became so smart in bringing a very user-friendly computing devices.

As a iPhone app developer working with mac in my office i got obsessed with it. I own a Dell XPS power packed laptop but always wanted a mac in my life. So saved a lot of money and bought a new Macbook pro.

After seeing that piece of cutting edge sillicon material outside i was amazed. So with a smirk in my face i opened the package saw the beauty sitting like a silent child inside the cage. I got familiarized with it and started showing-off to my friends who think Apple is not their friendly Non-Living-Thing.

1. Ask your friend to take the charger and plug the charger into the socket. With the magnet it pulls the charger socket easily and sets the charger in the place perfectly. There you go strike 1.

2. With the new Lios OS everything is gestures and animations. So now open Photobooth and touch the maximize button. Wo whoo a smart sleek animation which expands the window to fullscreen is so kool to watch out.

3. Now tell your friend that ‘Lets take a photo’. Click the photo icon in Photobooth app. Its starts the counter 3 2 1 and there is a flash in the screen which shows a white screen with full brightness for a split second and you have a clear photo taken. Pretty Impressive huh.

4. So now open as many applications like calendar, mail, iPhoto, Garageband, iMovie, Safari in fullscreen. Now tell your friend that now i am going to switch applications. Slide down your four fingers from left to right or right to left. Within less than a second you can switch to any app with that gesture. Now is the time to watch your friends face!!

5. Open Safari and browse through some 5 and above pages in a single tab. Now you wanna go back to previous page. Instead of clicking on back button slide the page by dragging two fingers on your touchpad a smooth transition shows the previous page. Within a second you can pass through the array of pages you visited with safari storing the pages in cache for sometime so that the page doesn’t reload.

6. Now shutdown you system. It takes almost 8-10 seconds for shut-downing which is 50% faster than windows machines.

7. Switch of all lights in your room. Open your macbook increase the keyboard light. Now your key glows with a white light so that it is easy to type when you are in a dark environment.

8. Open iPhoto App. Zoom in and zoom out pictures using the pinch gesture from your touchpad.

9. If you have a iPod or iPhone or iPad then you can amaze your rookie friends by the use of iCloud. Set iCloud on your device as well as on your macbook and connect both of them to internet. Now Take a foto from your iPhone/iPod/iPad you keep your device down open iphoto in your mac. Now show your friend the photo taken just 10 seconds ago which got clouded and rained your mac.

10. Finally take a screenshot of your mac and post it in Facebook and Twitter as I have done.

and thats the way to show-off with your macbook. Go nuts!!!

Here comes my multitouch master game. This game you have to use two of your fingers(Your Thumb and Indexfinger) to hold the scissors. Then you will be given a array of clothes with buttons on it. Now start cutting the buttons before the clothes disappear with the buttons. Dont try to cut the steel button you may trigger a quake.

Fruit Ninja

Combination of chinese ninja style kungfu and colorful fruits makes this a great addictive app for kids. Simple mission, you cut these juicy fruits when it pops out. Beware of the deadly bombs or you end up loosing the game. Get your eyes on three different type of games to juice up your phone.

Slice It

You can become a real mathematical engineer here. Slice the squares rectangles polygons and many other shapes to split it equally. Simple but mathematically addictive. Worth buying for time-passing on your 11 finger.

Doodle Jump

Jump, Jump and Jump again on the bars to levitate the doodle up in the air. With accelerometer comes to focus on moving our hands left and right, this game is quite thrilling.

Bike Baron

Those who have played some of the monster trucks rally bikes in small flash games you would love this app. The exciting bike stunts, collectibles with time limit you will not put your phone aside. Start applying some torque to this game.

Flight Control

You are controlling the airfield you have constant planes incoming to your field so guide them safely to the base. Thats all you have to do, except it gets tuff when time goes as lots of planes comes to your base. Its all about tackling the path. Don’t make the call MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY we are being Hit.

Trains! Interesting vehicle in the world. You can do something with that in this app You guide them to destinations with tweaking some the ledges, moving the tracks and completing the path. If not you could derail some trains so don’t make the Unstoppable Stoppable.

Best of Android Apps – That you don’t know

Angry Birds blasts off to Space

Its time to say to your friends.. Hey did you just play the new Angry Birds Space.

For those guys who are I-M-Tired-of-Angry-Birds, Bored-of-Angry-Birds, Nothing-Interesting-In-Angry-Birds. I can tell you one thing. ON YOUR FACE. By far this is one hell of a mobile game they put your index finger to work on.

This time Rovio fully catapulted its focus on the concept rather on birds and characters. Whats most amazing thing is the concept of gravity with the speed. They catapult the birds from different planets and the gravity says Oh O you just aimed it wrong. All you should look to differentiate is the 9.8meter/second into 9.8 touchandhold/second. :p

I was amazed to see a Super Mario thing. Yes there was a level where the bird hit a rock and a pig pops out like mario’s mushroom and moves like it towards end of wall. I just smirked and looking for anyone to tell this small amazing action.

Apart from that the graphics, characters and extra super powers adds extra freakishness to the app. Golden eggs are transformed into golden asteroids. You get a deja-vu when playing the golden asteroid level where the master ship with the villain pigs on it and you have to hit it with the power gun(here the birds) from the bottom. Its just cranky.

Only thing which makes it not-so-good is the sprites. That is the bird sizes and the game zone length. The birds seems to be to small when you play in a mobile device. Ahh What the hell this concept is awesome. Go Nuts.

Titanium Appcelerator – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

So developers here we go.

You probably heard this word Titanium or Appcelerator when you want to go for a Hybrid app development. That is you want to create once and have to deploy the app in both Android market and Apple appstore.

So i have jumped into this TA and had a experience with it and found its good, bad and ugliest features.

The Good Part

If this is the question – One time development and multiple platform deployment? The answer for it is the TA. The beauty of TA is that it does not use resource files to create a webview based app(Like Phonegap) instead it uses javascript notation and creates a native(iOs or droid) compatible files which can be compiled by thier native compilers.

This thing also accepts all basic native controls(Tableviews, Switch) each respective to their platforms supporting features like accelerometer, GPS, Push Notification manager etc.

Modules. Modules are the codes that we develop in native way and insert it into our TA app. For example you can add a module like Map that shows routes from one point to another point. This(Drawing Routes in Map) cannot be done in TA so it has a option to create that module in native and include it inside the app.

The Bad Part

If you think of a very small app just with small amount data with less than 10 screens and very little amount data from services, you are good to go with TA. But if you take a huge complex app then you have to face a lot of consequences at the end maintaining the app. These TA guys have been saying the memory has been fixed and i am not sure how far they have fixed.

If you are a iPhone programmer then you would probably miss the sexy, freaky, funky Xcode IDE’s animating breakpoints, pragma markings, helvetica font, Interface builders, finding methods, auto suggestions. I kinda miss them in Titanium IDE.

The thing I found in my experience is it takes more time to debug and deploy the code.

The Ugly Part

There are lot of Let-Me-Punch-My-Face, Why-I-Choose-Titanium, This-Is-Driving-Crazy situations  when i worked with Titanium.

Each time I quit the simulator and run the build there is a iOS simulator process accumulating on the physical memory(RAM) after some 5 to 6 hours of coding what ever you do the simulator wont run and only solution is to restart the system.

You have a lot of traceback issues and there is no accurate solution for it. Only hope for me is to close Titanium IDE and start again or to restart the whole system.

The documentation is so worthless all you know is properties and event listeners. The explanations are so bad.

The Climax

As a developer i really appreciate Titanium for creating this hybrid app development. By far i can tell you that this the best hybrid app development tool around the mobile nerds.

And there is always the but

So if you have a project that is very simple. You can go for TA. If you want a app that has complex functionality then I would advice you to go in native way.

Whats new in The new iPad

So here we are. World’s hottest gadget is out and what’s interesting in that piece of silicon junk.

Its no exceptional from all other i products from the apple creating rumors and thoughts about it. finally its all answered. This time apple gave away a simple symbolic image for the not-so-ordinary apple fans. A keynote, maps and calendar icon which spread a lot of rumor. But it all said the event takes place in apple headquarters on march 7(Wednesday) which is going to be a keynote presentation.

Let us come to the OMG part of the new iPad.

Retina The thing which we all know the most is Retina display giving a amazing resolution 2048 x 1536 pixels. These guys are absolutely amazing in packing the pixels very tightly. Makes the display astonishingly amazing to use it see it and feel it

iSight Camera So apple finally gave the iPad the second eye behind the head with a powerful tech. These are some the words to admire you. 5Megapixel, 1080p, face detection.

iPhoto This time the amazing app award goes to iPhoto. This amazing piece of app is going to push all other freaking photo editing tool apps behind the bar.

Fast If you have the fastest working handheld device in your hand then probably you will end with all basic network connectivity. that’s what the new iPad gives you 4G LTE, Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS and other teckie stuffs with amazing networking speeds. Apple’s A5  chip is the fastest processor in a handheld device makes it even sexier.
